Oslo are you ready?

It’s 7 in the morning. Me and Fredrik are on the train to Oslo, where Håvard, Tapani and Petzi are waiting (or still sleeping…?).

Our Oslo homeboy, Håvard, has planned everything to the smallest detail, as you can see in the following mail:

Wed. 25/5: Tap, Håvard And Petz arrive late in the evening from Ransarån.
We spend the night at my place.

Thur. 26/5: Urban Flyfishing.

Fri 27/5:
1. Fredrik and Joona arrive at 10.45 at Oslo with the morning train
from GBG.

2. F&J take the metro 3 stops westwards. Same building as the train arrives, and
any line will work. Ticket costs NOK 25,-, and the machines take all Nordic
credit cards/debit cards.

They get off at Majorstuen, where they meet up with Petz, Tap & me. We rehearse for as long as we want in the nearby Norges Musikkhøgskole (NMH).

3. We leave the borrowed bass (I fix) and Fredrik´s cymbals at NMH (the security there is like Alcatraz, so nothing will get stolen from there).

We go together to x, set up the camp and fish. To get there, we take the metro to x and walk for x minutes on a
gravel road. Good trout lake with nice tenting spots. It´s certainly not the
X, but it´s pretty OK – dry fly fishing for wild trout of good quality
and acceptable size, fully edible, and the water is good to drink. Also some
perch if we want to.

So I suspect there’s some playing and some fishing coming up. Tomorrow it’s gig at Herr Nilsen, and I’m sure Håvard has some more secret Oslo tricks in his sleeve. Stay tuned!

Action in Gothenburg

It has been a hectic week. Lot of planning, practicing, running and actually also some fishing. Yesterday I played at a very strange but at the same time very nice party. The evening ended like this: Status Quo entered the stage… !

A couple of days ago I received a brand new rod from Guideline! The rod is completely white, a dream for a sea trout fisherman and very powerful. More about the magic white rod later this week! Here are some pictures from some of the latest happenings in Gothenburg.

The Art of Fly Fishing

There’s a big article about Jazz & Fly Fishing in the latest number of Sztuka Lowienia, (The Art of Fly Fishing) a Polish fly fishing magazine. And more than so, they even included a CD with three tracks from our new album! Unfortunately all I know in Polish is Sztuka (Art) and Lowienia (Fishing) so I will have to ask a Polish friend to translate for me.

All our Polish followers – check out the magazine and stay tuned, we will visit Poland in September on our European tour (dates and venues t.b.a.)!

J&FF Live in Oslo!

We´re playing in Oslo on saturday 28th. Venue: Herr Nilsen, at 16.00.

Oslo dwellers: Don´t miss this rare opportunity to hear the band live – this is our first ever Oslo show!
We´ll be showing some new videos before the concert, and since we´ve started shooting Jazz & Fly Fishing: Season Two, our cameras will be rolling all the time. Be there, and you might just get your beautiful face in our new film! We´ll of course be signing our brand new album, too.

PS! We´re currently planning a European tour in September. There are still a couple of openings, so if you have an idea for a cool place to play (that pays a little bit), and has some half-decent fishing nearby for anything that swims, we might just be interested. Send us an e-mail!

PPS! A new, revolutionary competition will be lauched here soon! Stay tuned!

PPPS! We´re off to Ransarån in Northern Sweden on saturday. We´ll keep you posted. Can´t wait to get thoroughly humiliated by the big arctic char again! Finally, the endless, ugly Nordic winter is starting to fade a little bit (let´s hope it doesn´t read this and decide to make a comeback;).

PPPPS!
We´ll even try for some pike on the way. We probably won´t succeed (it´s too early for the Lapland pike), but you never know, you know…

Album out now!

The Jazz & Fly Fishing debut album Slow Walking Water has now been officially released!

We have updated the Music section of J&FF homepage with samples of each track, and you can even purchase the album directly from the page with PayPal account or credit card. Now as the fishing season is about to begin, it’s about time to get the album, pack the car, head for the waters and press play!

Here’s another look of Tapani’s short film with the same title:

UPDATE: Finland – Sweden, 6-1

UPDATE (by tapani):

Yes!!!!! Finland wins hockey world championships and most importantly humiliates sweden with a score to remember for a long time: 6-1!!!!!

Fredrik before the game:

I´m sorry Joona, but this is the result: 2-5!! Sweden will win and Finland will loose. Forgive me for saying that! In twenty minutes Sweden will win the ice hockey world championship. The final actually begins in 15 minutes!! If Sweden will win, Joona will by me a blended scotch. The countdown has began…

Here Is Trout!

With more than a little help from Norwegian fly fishing legends Lars Nilssen and Lars Lenth, who run the excellent flyfishing blog larsoglars.no, I found trout!

Smøla is the place. It is a totally flat and stunningly beautiful island on Norway´s western coast.
The island has lots and lots of small watersystems, and most of them are packed with brown trout, both sea-run and landlocked.
But the best part is the tidal currents. Smøla is surrounded by more than 5000 islets, and the tide turns the narrow straits between them into beautiful, ever-changing “rivers” of saltwater, filled with torpedo-shaped, fierce fighting seatrout. Highly recommended!

Here are some more pics:

PS! Lars&Lars have a brand new series of videos coming out on VGTV (Norway´s biggest newspaper´s TV channel) this summer, and I´ll be appearing in some of the episodes. Great fun! I´ll let you know when the new stuff starts airing. Meanwhile, there is some stuff from last year there. Czech it out!

Article in Fluefiske 2011

The Norwegian magazine Fluefiske 2011 comes out once a year. It´s a real high quality publication, with interesting articles written by interesting people.

This year, there´s an article written by none other than J&FF´s Fredrik Hamrå! Now that´s interesting!

For those of you who aren´t able to read Norwegian, there are two alternatives:

1. Learn how to read Norwegian. It´s easy. It´ll only take a couple of years. And since Norwegian is very similar to Danish and Swedish (like dialects, really), and also somewhat similar to for example Icelandic, German and Dutch, it´s a real bargain. Plus you´ll be able to read Henrik Ibsen and Knut Hamsun in the original language. Not bad, ehh?

2. Enjoy the pictures and try to guess what the text means. Perhaps even more fun, and definitely a quicker solution than alternative 1.
